Cruising the Amazon back to the Atlantic March 17

St Patricks Day was spent cruising the last of the Amazon  and then "crossing the bar"  back into the Atlantic at about 4 pm.  We spent our day reading, playing games, and attending lectures.  There was a special lunch featuring huge Amazon fish.

We saw the fish being delivered on the dock in Manaus
The fish were on display at lunch before they started cooking them
One of the fish was very colorful

The ship had been decorated with green balloons and afternoon tea featured all sorts of green desserts. They were also serving all kinds of green drinks at the bars including beer and champagne.  At cocktail hour there was a special St Patricks Day celebration with a sing-a-long of Irish songs.  There were also some silly games for passengers to make fools of themselves.  One of the games is sort of like musical chairs but it involves hats.  The participants stand in a circle and when the caller says "port" they are supposed to grab the hat from the head of the person on their left and put it on their own head and the reverse when he says "starboard".  Every few calls he says "fog" and they are supposed to turn in a circle and make a sound like a foghorn.  It gets pretty funny as no one can remember which side is port or starboard.  That was the game for the men.  For the women they did an "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" where the women had to make animal sounds, some were very good and it was a good laugh for everyone.

Lots of balloons in the atrium
Fancy desserts at tea time
Most of them had some green color
